Hi I am Sophia, the astrologer behind Solar Sylph. I’ve always been intensely fascinated by mythology and by the vivid dreams and otherworldly experiences I’ve had. Though I’ve been nominally aware of astrology for some time, I started studying it with vigor about five years ago. It was around the same time I began keeping a dream journal and seeing a psychoanalyst. I became somewhat obsessed with how accurate and insightful I found the astrological data and how well it intertwined with the world of myth and dreams. It was clear to me that there was something profound going on within the field. It first began as a sort of self-experiment as I was quite skeptical. I would collect astrological data on people I knew and then try to see if it matched up with their lived experience as well as my perceptions of them. It’s an ongoing and unofficial experiment, but personally, it helped assuage my skepticism and give me a personal database of examples from which to learn.

I have found that the deeper you go into your own inner world the more you realize that there is nothing that is really outside of us. The planets are physical structures, but they are also power creative forces within us—the macrocosm is reflected in the microcosm.

I like to think of astrology as fundamentally very practical and that is the way I use it personally and professionally. As a master’s student pursuing a degree in counseling I think astrology is an untapped resource for deep insight and healing. I’ve found that the parts of my chart that I resisted the most and felt like were the least ‘me’ were the parts where I needed the most love, the most healing.
